"The Fabric of Our Lives: Quilts of Nassau County"
"The Fabric of Our Lives: Quilts of Nassau County," an exhibition of historical quilts presented by the Amelia Island Museum of History and the Amelia Island Quilt Guild, will run from December 14th - February 28, 2008. This exhibit offers 15 historical quilts for the public?s viewing pleasure. The exhibit encourages viewers to explore the lives of the women who created these useful works of art, in some cases, over a century ago. Fort Clinch Union Garrison
Living history interpreters recreate life at Fort Clinch during the War between the States. Activities may include powder artillery demonstrations, marching drills, as well as soldiers and civilians taking up duty in the laundry, infirmary and kitchen. For details call (904) 277-7274

WHAT SLITHERS AT TALBOT? (Little Talbot Island)
Ooh! A snake! Will it bite me? Is it venomous?  This interpretive program explores the snakes that are native to Florida and live at the Talbot Island State Parks.  Join a Park Ranger on Saturday, January 12th at 11:30 a.m. and learn how to identify the most common snakes, their habitat, and their lifecycles.  Discover why these critters are important to a healthy and balanced natural community.  This program will take place at pavilion number six (6) at Little Talbot Island State Park.  No reservations are necessary and the program is FREE, however, non-campers will need to pay the park entrance fee ($4.00 per vehicle) to attend.

Spanish American War Commemoration
The Spanish American War event in January will have re-enactors in the uniform of that period. They will be portraying daily life as it was for the soldiers in 1898 during the Spanish American War. The event will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 12th and from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 13th.

SECRETS OF THE SALTMARSH (Fort George Island)
Discover the importance of estuarine systems that surround the inshore sides of barrier islands like Fort George Island.  Join a park ranger on Sunday, January 20th at 1:00 p.m. at the Ribault Club on Fort George Island to learn why these areas are one of the most productive ecosystems on Earth and how plants and animals survive in this extremely dynamic environment.  No reservations are necessary and the program is free. Don't forget your bug spray and water bottle.

La Vie en Rose
The Amelia Island Film Festival is having a showing of La Vie en Rose from Powerhouse Entertainment staring Marion Cotillard as Edith Piaf, (nominated for the Golden Globe Award) on January 23rd and 24th at the Palace Saloon Banquet Room.

Each evening, two short films will be shown also, one about the Fernandina Beach Shrimping Industry in the 1950s, and the other about the 1960s Shrimp Festival Boat Races. The first evening showing is Wednesday, January 23 at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission Adults: $ 10. Tickets can be purchased at: Last Flight Out, Susi?s Emporium and The Chamber of Commerce Depot Building, all on Centre Street, in the Historic District. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at Alexander's at Palmetto Walk, the UPS Store on Sadler Road & The Chamber of Commerce location at Gateway Center.

The Amelia Island Museum of History's Veteran's History Project
The Amelia Island Museum of History's Veteran's History Project presents a Heroes Among Us Luncheon featuring Mickey Baity, ret. Air Force Colonel, who will give a personal account of Vietnam's air war. The luncheon will be held from 11am-1pm at St. Peter's Parish Hall, 801 Atlantic Avenue. Advance payment of $20 is required. Heroes Among Us Luncheon Program Series
Amelia Island Museum of History presents Heroes Among Us Luncheon Program Series, Program 9:"Air War In Southeast Asia" featuring Colonel Mickey Baity, United States Air Force, retired. The lunch will begin at 11:15 a.m., and the program will begin at noon at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Hall, between 8th and Centre Streets in Fernandina Beach.

Program is $20 per person, which includes buffet lunch and program. Proceeds benefit the Museum's Veterans History Project and the Episcopal Church Women. Open to the public. Elderhostel presents Days of Discovery: Hear the Untold Stories of the Civil War
Join the Amelia Island Museum of History for a day of discovery. It is Florida?s first spoken history museum and houses a variety of exhibits chronicling America?s most captured territory, as well as artifacts from the nation?s greatest struggle?the Civil War. Program highlights include a presentation by retired Lt. Col. Dr. William Birdsong, who reveals the hardships and inspirations on the front line and in the operating room; a presentation by researcher James Longacre, who will share his research on the role African Americans played in the fight for their own freedom; and a guided tour of Fernandina Beach?s historic district, where you can discover the community?s beautiful architecture and the unique character of Amelia Island.
